Good news - the way to escape sin and eternal punishment and
reconcile us to God our Maker; the promise of eternal life and a home in
heaven; peace with God; forgiveness for all sin, the gift of the Holy
Ghost - the comforter and guide and Spirit of Truth...
Before I begin my story, I'd like to share a few thoughts that will only take a moment. God loves you. He loves all who labor and are burdened down (Matt. 11:28). He knows your every care, every pain, every heartache, along with every blessing. He knows all your sins. He knows all your abilities, too, because He gave you every good thing you possess. He knows because He is your Creator and your God. All of us born in this world are the children of Adam who fell from perfection into sin, and so we have corrupted natures, prone to sin and selfishness. We cannot please God in this state and are so bad, we could never go to heaven where everything is perfect. We who are of age, deserve punishment: eternity in hell (Luke 16:23). But God made a way of escape for all of us. He gave His only Son, Jesus, (John 3:16) who came to this earth, born of a virgin (Matt. 1:23), to show God to men and to tell the good news of how to be reconciled to God. Then he gave his life as a ransom on the cross to save us from our sins. But salvation is not automatic. God requires that men hear the good news and then repent or turn around from their known sins and believe on His Son, Jesus. By his grace (His divine assistance) we turn from our sins, receive faith in Jesus as God's Son and receive the gift of eternal life and are 'born again' (John 3:7). God gives this mighty gift of a new life within, a new creature in Christ (2 Cor. 5:17). He bestows this by His Holy Spirit on all who will believe (John 3:8) or trust in Jesus as God's only Son (John 3:36). He also promises the gift of the Holy Ghost to all who will believe and follow Jesus with all their heart (Acts 2:38). This is nearly beyond description, but read my story and find out how God brought this sinner in great darkness into His marvelous light. Doug's Story: Although God forces no one to believe in Him or His Son Jesus, you can
be assured that He is in the business of calling all men to look at His
Son, to see who this Jesus is, and revealing to men the utter vanity of
living a sinful, selfish life without God or His Son in this world. The
reality of eternity and the coming judgment approaches all of us, some
more quickly than others, but none escape. "The Lord is not slack
concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is
longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that
all should come to repentance." II Peter 3:9 Peter also stated in
the book of Acts, after he and John were arrested by the ruling
council of Jews, "For we cannot
but speak the things which we have seen and heard."
For these reasons I want to relate just a bit of my story. I'd never met anyone like Steve Brown (his web site is http://pastorsb.com if you're interested). This guy was on fire with a passion for Jesus Christ. He explained things to me about the Christian life that I never knew or understood. He told how Jesus wanted to do what he did for me (reveal his powerful love) to thousands of people, but so few that talked about Jesus had real faith. He also told me how Jesus wanted to heal folks and do miracles just like he did in Bible times, to help people believe. In the next few months and years I saw and experienced some of those things, including his mother saved from death by heart attack on her living room couch, and healed completely within a week (her condition verified by Mercy Hospital a couple days after the attack that nearly killed her). My pilonidal cyst was healed, and many other things too numerous to tell in this short version. Greater than all these was the presence of Jesus Christ with me, a profane sinner saved by His great mercy, along with His inspiration and guidance and help with so many things in my life. Then there was the persecution, another story entirely, but very real. Ask me about it if you want to know some things that happened.
By the way, one night at The Lord's House (what we called the house
we met in weekly for Bible study and prayer) while we were praying for
other people, God revealed to me that those strange thoughts and
experiences I had before talking to Bill were the workings of the Holy
Spirit in my life and answers to the prayers that were ascending to
heaven from these meetings. Before any man had talked with me, God was
showing me truth and giving light to my situation and helping me to turn
away from my alcohol binging and lusting after girls (some of my main
sins).
"No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will
raise him up at the last day." John6:44
Fortunately, Jesus also said for the likes of me,
"All
that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I
will in no wise cast out." John 6:37 A friend in Christ,
Here are a few applicable verses from the Holy Bible:
"The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel." Mark 1:15 "And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day." John 6:40 "Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again." John 3:5-7 "Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God." Galatians 5:19-21

Some people think that belief in Christ and the Bible is based only on blind faith, or an ability to belief in what you cannot see. This is just not true. You will hear some tell you that the Bible is full of mistakes or contradictions, but those statements come from ignorance and a lack of understanding of how to correctly interpret Scripture. Anyone who humbles themselves, turns from their sins and seeks for God and His Son, will find that same truth in the Scripture as the early disciples found and will meet the risen Son of God. It is the Savior who gives you this living faith as a gift. You need not have some special ability to belief in the unseen. Jesus told us clearly, "He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. 22Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world? 23Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him." Just as Christ revealed himself to me, he will manifest himself to you and both he and God the Father will come to make their abode with you. And when God comes into your life He brings His own love, joy, and peace. This goes way beyond blind faith. Note also that Jesus stressed that the person must have his commandments and keep them. This is where hearing the gospel (good news about Jesus) and repentance is a vital part of becoming and being a Christian. All of you that have read this testimony and the verses after it have heard a portion of the gospel or good news about Jesus Christ. Upon hearing this message, God is planting more of the Word of God in your heart. This is surely not the first time you've heard some of the gospel, but have you learned what is sin before God? Do you know it is a damnable sin to not have faith in God? Do you know you are to forgive others who have trespassed against you? Do you know it is wrong to lust after men or women just to have sex? Do you know that hating another person is akin to murder in God's eyes? Do you know that using the name of God or Christ or Jesus in vain is a sin that God will punish? Do you know the many aspects of the gospels? Do you know the fact that Jesus fulfilled over 300 Old Testament prophecies, including being born of a virgin, in the town of Bethlehem, his attempted assassination as a little child by the king, his preaching and teaching about the kingdom of God and healing thousands of incurable diseases, blindness, deafness, leprosy, and so on, walking on water, feeding 4,000 and 5,000 with a lunch, raising the dead, healing broken hearts, betrayed by a disciple for 30 pieces of silver, rejected and condemned by his own leaders, crucified between two malefactors, pierced in his hands and feet and side, all for our transgressions and iniquities, whipped and given stripes on his back for the healing of our bodies, giving up his spirit to God and dying as his amazed executioners looked on, buried in a rich man's tomb for three days and nights, then rising from the dead and witnessed by his enemies, his friends, and over 500 disciples at once, ascending to heaven before them in a cloud, sending the Holy Ghost upon his disciples, giving them power to preach, heal, and suffer persecution and death for their Savior. And do our know the many great promises that Christ gave to them that repent and believe the good news? There is the promise of eternal life, forgiveness for all your sins, the born again experience, peace that passes understanding, healing for your wounded spirit, your sin damaged soul, and your broken body, continued mercy throughout your life, answers to your prayers, the baptism of the Holy Ghost with power to serve God, fellowship with true believers, knowing God and His Son, a eternal home in heaven! I could go on and on. The promises are so numerous and wonderful that it will take you a lifetime and beyond to understand them. Repentance is recognizing our sins and sinful nature and turning away from those sins, especially our pride, and at the same time, turning toward God in humility. It is vital to recognize that nothing you ever do will make you worthy of God's forgiveness and heaven...nothing. Jesus is the only one worthy, a perfect man that died for your sins and my sins and the sins of the whole world. His mercy, which was bought with his own blood, is extended to you freely, without charge. If God had not sent him to earth we would all perish in hell, damned eternally for our sins against God. Faith in what Jesus did for you is the only means of receiving mercy from God and being accounted as righteous before Him. Your supposed good deeds are as "filthy rags" before the Holy God. Jesus' commands make us aware of how sinful we are and how far we've fallen from God. His main commands to the sinner are simple: "Repent and believe the good news!" Then, "take up the cross, deny yourself, and follow me." He then commands each believer to be baptized in water and be filled with the Holy Spirit; to love one another, to forgive and be tenderhearted toward one another. Along with this is his command to "Go in to all the world and preach the gospel..." Does it seem overwhelming? Impossible? It is by yourself. "When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved? 26But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible. " Matthew 19:25 "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." Romans 10:13
